The VAT formula
To add tax: Tax amount = Pre-tax price × tax rate; Tax-inclusive price = Pre-tax price × (1 + tax rate). To extract tax from a price that already includes 10% VAT: Pre-tax price = Tax-inclusive price ÷ 1.1, and the difference between the two is the VAT amount. The tool calculates both directions automatically so you don't have to remember the formulas.
