How to use HEIC → JPG/PNG

  1. Click "Choose Images" and pick one or more .heic/.heif files from your iPhone/iPad or computer.
  2. Choose the output format: JPG (lightweight, most widely supported) or PNG (sharper detail, supports transparency).
  3. If you chose JPG, drag the quality slider to balance sharpness against file size.
  4. Click download for each image once the tool finishes converting.

What is HEIC, and why does the iPhone use it?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the format Apple has used since iOS 11 to store photos at JPG-equivalent quality but at roughly half the file size. The downside is that older Windows systems and many websites and apps still can't open it, so when sharing photos with others you often need to convert them to JPG/PNG first.

Should you choose JPG or PNG?

Choose JPG for everyday photos (portraits, landscapes) since the file stays small and opens everywhere. Choose PNG when you need to preserve sharp detail — like screenshots, images with text, or when you need a transparent background — though the file size will be larger.

How to stop your iPhone from creating HEIC photos in the first place

If you'd rather not convert every time, go to Settings → Camera → Formats and choose "Most Compatible"; your iPhone will then shoot straight to JPG. That said, photos you've already taken will still be in HEIC, so this tool remains useful for working through your existing photo library.

Frequently asked questions

Why won't my iPhone photos open on my Windows computer?

iPhones save photos as HEIC to save space, but Windows and many older apps don't support it natively. Converting to JPG/PNG makes them openable on any device.

Are my photos sent anywhere online?

No. HEIC decoding runs entirely in your browser — all processing runs right in your browser, so your data is never sent to any server.

Can I convert multiple HEIC photos at once?

Yes. You can select multiple images at once; the tool converts them one by one and you download each result.

Does converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?

At a quality setting of 90% or higher, the difference is virtually imperceptible to the naked eye. JPG is a lossy format, so if you need to preserve the image exactly, choose PNG instead.

Can it convert Live Photos too?

The tool converts the still-image portion of the HEIC file. The video part of a Live Photo (the accompanying .mov file) isn't part of the HEIC image, so it's unaffected.
